Trials

Shall we breeze through life without any tests?

These icebergs that scrape and cut through one’s heart lay deep beneath what our sight may measure they hold great trial and wear on one’s smile yet, thawed, gush forth an ocean of treasure of lessons learned the hard way

Shall we breeze through life without any tests?

Woke up early one morning
Found it heavy to breathe
Pain cut though my aching heart
Each second I heard it faintly beat

Picked up the enormously heavy rock
That lingered within so long
Its rough edges had worn a hole so deep
With its sharpness, a bleeding heart it had torn

Held it delicately in my strong arms
Whispered to it, “Fly away”
And as a dove it soared above
Trailing wisdom and fortitude my way

These icebergs that scrape and cut through one’s heart
Lay deep beneath what our sight may measure
They hold great trial and wear on one’s smile
Yet, thawed, gush forth an ocean of treasure

Of lessons learned the hard way
Through eye-opening pearls of tears
Learning to love and lean on only the One
Our comfort and Protector from fears

Like an ant that tries to climb and slips
Perseverance and patience are the only keys
It’s only with faith one can surmount any mountain
Only with truth can your heart be set free

”Or do you think that you shall enter the gardens of Bliss (al-Jannat) without such (trials) as came to those who passed away before you? They encountered suffering and adversity and they were shaken, that even the messenger and those who believed with him cried, When will come the help of Allah! And verily, the help of Allah is near!” (Holy Qur’an 2:214)
