Ayatollah Ahmed Dashti Returns to His Lord

Prominent scholar and jurist Ayatollah Ahmed Dashti passed away in Bushehr, Iran, on Tuesday. He was 103 years old.

Ayatollah Hajj Mirza Ahmed Dashti Najafi was born in Dashti, Iran, in 1908. He studied in the Islamic seminary of Najaf under the greatest scholars of the 20th century, including Ayatollah Abul-Hasan al-Isfehani, Ayatollah Dhiauddin Araki, Ayatollah Abdul-Hadi Shirazi, and Ayatollah Abul Qasim al-Khoei. Upon the expulsion of foreign students from Iraq in 1971, he proceeded to the Islamic seminary in Qom, where he taught for almost four decades. He also established the Imam Asr School in Qom.

Last week, Ayatollah Dashti was admitted to the Fatima Zahra Hospital in his native Bushehr, where he passed away on Tuesday. Following a funeral procession in Bushehr, his body was taken to Qom. Funeral prayers were led by Ayatollah Nasir Makarem Shirazi, and he was laid to rest in the sanctuary of the shrine of Lady Masooma (peace be upon her).
