Ayatollah Hussaini Kashani Passes Away

At the age of 25, he began leading prayers in the shrine of Imam Hussain, until he was expelled from Iraq along with many other scholars by the Ba’athist regime. He had since been teaching in the Islamic seminary of Qom and was considered one of its most senior and respected teachers.Eminent scholar and seminary teacher Ayatollah Sayyid Abbas Hussaini Kashani passed away in Tehran on Sunday, July 18. He was 81 years old.

He was born in the holy city of Karbala on the birthday of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his progeny) in 1930. He began his religious education at a very young age in the seminary of Karbala and continued his higher religious education in the Islamic seminary in Najaf, where he studied under such notable mentors as Sayyid Muhsin al-Hakim, Sayyid Abul Qasim al-Khoei, and Sayyid Ali Qadhi Tabatabai.

According to a report by Ahlul Bayt News Agency, Ayatollah Kashani was admitted to Qom’s Vali-e-Asr Hospital for heart problems over a month ago. He was subsequently transferred to the Khatam al-Anbiya Hospital in Tehran, but his condition deteriorated after a heart attack led to an internal hemorrhage.

On Sunday, July 18, he breathed his last. His funeral procession will take place on Tuesday, and his body will be carried from the Khayaban-e-Shuhada in Qom to the shrine of Lady Fatima Masooma (peace be upon her), where he will be laid to rest in the sanctuary of the shrine.
