Respected jurist, teacher, and exegete of the Qur’an Ayatollah Sadeqi Tehrani passed away on Monday, March 21. He was 85 years old.

Ayatollah Muhammad Sadeqi Tehrani was born to a scholarly family in Tehran in 1347 AH (1926 CE). He received his early religious education under his father and then proceeded to study in the Islamic seminaries of Najaf and Qom under Grand Ayatollah Muhammad Hussain Burujardi, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Abul Qasim al-Khoei, Allama Sayyid Muhammad Hussain Tabatabai, and Imam Ruhullah Musawi Khomeini.

For several decades, he was a well-respected teacher of Qur’anic studies within the Islamic seminary of Qom. In addition to numerous books and articles on topics related to the Holy Book, he authored Al-Furqan Fi Tafsir al-Qur’an, a 30-volume commentary on the Qur’an which took over ten years to complete. He also penned several noteworthy works on Shia beliefs and jurisprudence.

Earlier this month, he suffered a stroke and was taken to a hospital in Tehran. On March 21, he returned to his Lord at the age of 85. Amid a crowd of mourners and well-wishers, he was laid to rest in the holy city of Qom.
