Left Alone

What is the purpose of life? Why do we choose materialism over spirituality when we know what the correct choice is?

From God we come, to God we return
The purpose of life I have yet to discern
I was taught to read, never taught to learn
Each breathe shortening my limited run
Till I am left alone in the earth, which turns

Killing demons…
Resembling the devil himself
Pointing at others’ faults….
My mistakes yet to be dealt
I speak of a book….
That lies dust-filled on my shelf
I praise honesty….
With false feats under my belt

Greedy for money, respect and power
Will greed pay off in my last hour?
On command of each sin, my body devoured
Headed six feet under, fascinated by towers
Truly, deeds are all we should call ours
Accompanying us when we’re pushing flowers

In this materialism, spirituality is in a drought
The wealthy talk big and we ignore the devout
People unaware of their destiny
Others unaware of the route
Petty temptations buy faith out
Kids struggling with unanswered doubts

Diamond stickers on the blanket sky
Mirror majestic power and awe
An eerie, cold silence at the grave
Constantly reminding of how…

From God we come, to God we return
The purpose of life I have yet to discern
I was taught to read, never taught to learn
Each breathe shortening my limited run
‘Till I am left alone in the earth, which turns
